Direct Support Professional/ Home Health Aide


Job Description

As a Direct Support Professional, you will have the overall responsibilities of performing personal care tasks and ensuring client safety for the elderly, disabled or developmentally disabled in a HomeCare setting.

Depending on client’s plan of care, you may be tasked with…

  • Providing assistance with basic personal hygiene and grooming.
  • Performing home management functions such as light housekeeping, laundry, bed making, and cleaning, shopping for groceries, planning, preparing and serving food/meals, feeding, and clean-up.
  • Accompanying client to scheduled appointments.
  • Assisting with toileting, including bedpans, urinals, and commode chairs.
  • Reminding/assisting with self-administration of medications (with proper training).
  • Encouraging self-help activities.
  • Transporting clients or running approved errands.
  • Communicating changes in client’s condition and any incidents of a reportable nature

If applicable, based on client need and your trained skill level, you may also be tasked with ambulation, medical monitoring, and delegated health care related tasks.

Job Requirements

As a Direct Support Professional, you will play a vital role in the lives of our clients by assisting them with day-to-day living activities, serving as a source of companionship, and helping to make each and every day just a little bit better and a whole lot brighter!

Requirements for the position include:

  • Ability to meet background and other state-specific compliance requirements.
  • Capable of working responsibly with highly confidential information.
  • Willingness to participate in on the job training of proper fundamentals of care-giving and/or six months experience in home health management.
  • Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) if required.
  • Effective communication skills, professionalism, a strong focus on client respect and care are essential for success in this role.
  • Ability to problem solve and act quickly in emergency situations.
  • Valid driver’s license, with a satisfactory driving record, as defined by ResCare’s vehicle policy required (if transporting clients).
  • CNA or related certification a plus.
