DSP – Community Access/Community Living Responsibilities

The position will assist individuals who are interested in accessing community resources and participating more fully in the community around them. This position shall ensure individuals are supported to develop and maintain the skills needed in order to be successful in their chosen community activities and that individual plans are implemented in order to support the person in achieving their goals. The DSP – Community Access/Community Living shall ensure all required documentation is completed and correctly filed in individual records and submitted to the Business Office for billing. They shall monitor quality of individual activities and individual responses to activities and coordinate additional supports and services with the person’s team. They shall ensure communication with client case managers, guardians, and others regarding individual activities as appropriate. They may attend team meetings and assist in assessment of individual skills as assigned. They shall adhere to all regulations applicable to their position and service provided.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Supervise individuals receiving Community Access/Community Living Services.  
  • Support individuals to find, secure, and participate in community activities (clubs, church, sports groups, etc.) according their interests and plans to include building natural supports.   
  • Support individuals to develop skills needed to participate in community activities.  
  • Coordinate services with team as needed.  
  • Complete all documentation requirements associated with individual support 
  • Ensure all Best In Class and regulatory standards are met as it applies to services.

Specific Requirements

To provide Community Access:

  • Must meet all regulatory requirements for education and credentialing for SCL.  
  • Relevant experience or credentialing that substitutes for the educational requirement.  
  • Must complete required state training for position to comply with regulation and complete ResCare training requirements per regulation and policy, to include training specific to position.

To provide Community Living Services:

  • Relevant experience and/or credentialing preferred.
  • Must meet all regulatory requirements for education and credentialing for SCL and/or MPW.

For both:

  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge of job skills and complete orientation and training classes. 
  • Must have valid Kentucky Driver’s License.  
  • Must maintain certification in CPR, You’re Safe/I’m Safe, Crisis Prevention Intervention and other required courses throughout employment.
