Enterprise IT Infrastructure Architect Responsibilities

The Enterprise IT Infrastructure Architect is a leader who is responsible for designing the architecture at the enterprise level. This individual provides highly-valued strategic consulting level support and guidance throughout key IT initiatives.

Defines target architecture representing business, application, information, security, and technology and provides vision, problem anticipation, and problem-solving ability to assigned areas of business. Familiar with a variety of business area concepts, practices, and procedures.

The ideal candidate will guide or lead evaluation, and selection of enterprise architectures that align and/or drive current and future business needs across the enterprise. Act as an internal consultant in the support of evolving the company's IT infrastructure, IT security, capabilities, and services. Play a
highly visible role with company leadership in and out of IT.

The ideal candidate will have deep expertise around industry best practices in the various aspects of IT, security, technology trends, industry knowledge and ability to conceive enterprise architectures that implement key business strategies.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Influences and sets strategic IT architectural direction for the company.
  • Develops and maintains architecture principals for the enterprise
  • Works with business and IT leaders to help develop and maintain key architecture principals
  • Alignment of strategic and tactical programs and plans.
  • Leads and mentors enterprise architecture decisions, driving further evolution and maturity of technology within the organization
  • Develops security requirements for IT infrastructure
  • Define, implement and maintain corporate security policies and procedures
  • Leads the adoption of strategic technologies across all IT stakeholders.
  • Provides ongoing support and leadership in resolving risks and issues related to enterprise architecture throughout execution.
  • Works with business unit and technical resources to cultivate appropriate solution required to meet business goals.
  • Recommends options, conducts cost-benefit analysis, and develops the business case for services.
  • Supports strategic planning and annual budgeting processes to ensure technology strategies are aligned.
  • Collaborates with IT peers in business relationship management, solution architecture, development, project management, business intelligence, security, and infrastructure.
  • Stays current with areas of business and technology industry trends and emerging architectures and recommend applicability for the company.
  • Leads innovation PoCs and emerging technology evaluations.

Specific Requirements


  • Minimum of an Associate Degree in Information Technology, Business or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • 15+ years of IT experience and 5+ years of architecture experience -
    especially experiences that leverage technology as part of the solution.


  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.


  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.


  • Demonstrated ability to build and manage trusted relationships.
  • Track record of working on projects that delivered different types of business and IT outcomes
  • Demonstrated experience in setting and influencing company-wide strategic architecture/technical direction.
  • Demonstrated experience in the development of architecture for business programs/projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in establishing architecture for architecture/technology standards.
  • Ability to train, mentor and provide ongoing support of architecture best practices to all IT stakeholders.
  • Ability to reach out across the organization and communicate with people at different levels, with diverse needs and agendas; related capabilities include facilitation and teaming skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to execute financial analysis, such as TCO models and ROI.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, research and design security architectures for any IT project
  • Technically competent; able to supervise and inspire other technical individuals.
  • Desired Certifications: MCSE, CCIE, CISSP
