Nursing Assistant (CNA) Instructor Responsibilities

CNA provides direct and indirect care to patients under the direction of a registered nurse or a licensed practical nurse; and responsibilities include basic patient care (see detailed list below), the ability to obtain vital signs, recording fluid intake and output, recognizing and reporting changes in patient condition, and documentation of patient care on written flow sheet and computer.

The role of CNA Instructor is to provide quality training in a State Certified Nursing Assistant Certification Program. Will provide individual and group discussions for the approve curriculum in accordance with the Center, Job Corps, and American Medical Association (AMA). Role in a State Certified CNA Training Program is to provide quality training; and will facilitate training under direction of RN to ensure students are able to become certified after successful completion of training which will cover and include (but not limited to) the following "Answer patients' call signals, Turn and re-position bedridden patients, alone or with assistance, to prevent bedsores. Observe patients' conditions, measuring and recording food and liquid intake and output and vital signs, and report changes to professional staff. Provide patients with help walking, exercising, and moving in and out of bed. Provide patient care by applying dressings and supervising exercise routines. Prepare patients for surgery, treatment, or examination. Transport patients to treatment units, using a wheelchair or stretcher. Clean rooms and change linens. A nurse assistant must also have a strong grasp of emergency procedures and be able to stay calm in stressful situations.

Specific Requirements

Must have a valid state Driver's License and auto insurance; and First Aid and CPR Certification required. Must have a high school diploma or equivalent. Must have a State CNA Certification; and must be able to facilitate training and teach others in order for them to become certified in accordance with the state CNA certification requirements. Minimum of two years related experience.
