Recreation Manager Responsibilities

Plans, Organizes and directs comprehensive recreation programs within the Job Corps Program.

 Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Develop and promote recreational programs which meet the needs of all trainees.
  • Scheduling of activities in a safe, efficient and cost effective manner.
  • Extend partnerships to other recreational providers in the community.
  • Oversee the staffing patterns and development of all staff within department.
  • Submits Calendar of Events for review on a monthly basis. Due to the DSD by the 15th of each month.
  • Conducts monthly student surveys.
  • Meets with new students during first week of Stay.
  • Tracks cost of activities on a monthly basis.
  • Monitors trainee participation in various activities based on spending limits.
  • Ensures activity costs and trainee participation logs are reconciled with Accounting Department.
  • Maintains stock of trainee Uniforms and various other athletic garments.
  • Increases opportunities for trainees to lead project based teams during event hours.
  • Schedule a variety of recreational programs which encourages maximum trainee participation leading to positive social behaviors.
  • Sensitizes staff to encourage sportsmanship, fair play and positive social interactions.
  • Acknowledges and rewards trainees who exhibit positive social behaviors and sportsmanship.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Specific Requirements

  • Must be able to perform supervisory functions of planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluation of recreation programs and staff.
  • Must be able to work evenings and some weekends.
  • Must have experience in working with diverse populations.


  • Bachelor's Degree in Recreation, Physical Education or related field; or four to six years related experience and/or training.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

  • Valid Commercial Driver's License, CDL within 90 days of hire.
  • CPR/First Aid Certifications.​
