As a(n) Sr. Director Financial Planning & Analysis (HomeCare) you will: 

The Director/Senior Director of Operations Finance will serve as the senior finance leader over the HomeCare Division, will be a key partner to the operational leaders, and own, define, and drive all financial analysis and reporting for their assigned business.  The successful candidate will be seen as a driver of results within their business, across disciplines (e.g., census growth, utilization, revenue rate, labor management and overhead staffing) – truly a financial leader. This function acts as the analytical engine of the HomeCare Division to provide insights, support and optimal business decision making. The direct reports to this role include one Financial Analyst. The position reports to the Senior Vice President of FP&A. HomeCare Division includes a national footprint and delivers services including: Senior and I/DD HomeCare and daily living support, neuro rehabilitation therapy, outpatient therapy (PT, OT, SLP), pediatric autism support and therapy, home health, hospice, and ancillary services.

  • Forecast – Develop monthly and quarterly forecasts, driven by key operational metrics analyzed in partnership with operations leaders, and present forecast to senior leadership regularly.  Provide flash updates on metrics and corresponding revenue and EBITDA weekly.
  • Budget – In concert with operations teams, develop strategic plans and growth strategies, including de novo development plans and organic census growth / cost containment.  Create annual operational budgets for each site/branch within the assigned business, assessing run rates, growth plans, staffing needs/requests, and regulatory impacts.  Present budgets to senior leadership within operating segment and to company executives.
  • Financial reviews – Complete detailed reviews of individual branches.  Each branch will be reviewed monthly, with particular attention being paid to branches with significant variances to monthly budgets / forecast and/or with material changes to their run rates.
  • Drive Business Performance – More than reporting the numbers, the Director / Senior Director of Operations Finance is responsible for monitoring key performance metrics and taking action to improve operational performance across many areas.  Specifically:
    • Daily served hours management/analysis – Daily review of served hours compared to budget and trend to identify areas where utilization needs to be addressed, determine impact and implement changes with operators.
    • Gross Profit – Monitor performance indicators, highlighting trends and analyzing causes of unexpected variances.  Partner with operations management to effect positive change to results. 
    • Monthly overhead management, position, and pay control – Monitor overhead staffing and all position and pay control.  Drive an environment of fiscal management across every level of the organization and ensure all agencies are in line with approved overhead staffing plans and field pay is in line with budgets.
  • Standardized Reporting – To support their businesses, work with the business intelligence tool and dashboard reports/data to ensure all reporting is produced timely and provides valuable information to understand current business trends, and utilizes reporting to identify focus areas – addressing with operations and other functions as needed.  Reporting drives performance and this position is to ensure that performance is in line with expectations.
  • Ad hoc analysis / projects – As a valuable resource to a business unit, various analytical initiatives will be assigned.  These include rate/volume variance analyses, wage increase valuation, union negotiation impacts, ROI for investment positions (e.g., sales managers), incentive calculations, support field and other operational projects that may arise.

Position Requirements

Education, Experience and Certification

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance or account required
  • CPA/CFA or MBA highly desirable
  • 7+ years of relevant experience 
  • 2-3 years of leadership or management experience

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to use and manage complex reporting processes, systems, and report writing tools
  • High attention to detail, timeliness, and accuracy
  • Experience in budgeting, forecasting and strategic planning 
  • Experience with development of variance and trend financial analysis 
  • Advanced Excel and MS Office tools, spreadsheet, and database usage
  • Ability to effectively and professionally communicate (verbal and written) with all levels of personnel both internal and external to the company
  • Demonstrated ability to roll-up sleeves and work with team members in a hands-on management capacity
